Enterprise Development 2008

The first two quarters of this fiscal year have seen tremendous accomplishments by PFID/NP and ASNAPP Ghana. Our ongoing work with Kombo and Voacanga enterprise development have resulted in the mobiliztion and processing of Kombo for the commercial market, continued progress towards the establishment of tea processing facilities, andthe introduction of the 'tradnet' ITC.

  • PFID/NP's implementing partner, ASNAPP-Ghana, supervised the mobilization of 15MT of Kombo nuts. 6MT have been processed into 2MT of Kombo butter so far by theAmpenkro and Begoro cooperative societies.
  • Work on the registration of collectors and agents on pilot basis is ongoing with the selection of communities.
  • ASNAPP is working to source funds for Trayonya to develop its cottage level tea processing facility.
  • Our work has helped to establish a nursery where 5,000 seedlings of Voacanga have been raised at the office premises and has so far assisted outgrowers to establish 15,000.
  • ASNAPP initiated formal collaborations in Moringa tea processing at Have in the Volta region. Quality control and quality assurance and market development services are to be provided by ASNAPP.
  • Seedlings of Voacanga (1,063) were sold to prospective farmers valued at about $578.
  • ASNAPP continued to engage the services of experts from KNUST to provide technical support and extended improved technologies to farmer groups at Akanteng, Kibi and Bawjiase
  • An ongoing project with SPEED on increasing market access using ICT tools dubbed tradenet was launched on the 13th of December, 2007 with the registration of over 30 MSMEs onto the electronic trade platform
  • ASNAPP continued with follow up visits to the Trayonya community to sustain interest in the enterprise by community members following the temporal stationing of the milling machine at ASNAPPs' headquarters while the constraints limiting the transfer of the equipment to the community are solved.
