Research and Technology Transfer 2008

First Quarter

Nicholas Hitimana and the visiting team from Rutgers University (Jim Simon, Ramu Govindasamy and Rodolfo Juliani) toured the geranium fields, the current distillation unit and the newly planned expansion sites for the geranium and provided technical recommendations and assistance on plot orientations, drainage needs, raised bed cultivation issues, and disease identification.

Second Quarter

A trial of chamomile growing in Rwandan agro-climatic conditions is in its 5th month. A trial of lemongrass production was also initiated in March 2008. A modern distillation unit was shipped to Kigali from South Africa and a modern boiler ordered in Kenya. Good quality geranium plantlets were imported from South Africa.
