The 2006 to 2007 fiscal year saw great progress towards the continuation and expansion of the core pillars of the Partnership for Food Industry Development / Natural Products (PFID/NP) and ASNAPP program objectives. Over the last year great progress has been made on promoting and introducing the MPUNTU line of teas into the US. The MPUNTU lable brings products from PFID/NP and ASNAPP partner communities direct to the consumer thereby offering higher returns for producers. In 2007 the MPUNTU lines received recognition from Food and Wine Magazine, US online sales of packaged teas, and the further exploration of additional products and varieties have begun. In an effort towards market penetration in the US, ASNAPP has been partnering with the herbal tea company, ADINA, San Francisco, CA to produce oragnically certified hibiscus in Senegal. ADINA, ASNAPP, and AES assisted farmer associations in Senegal to obtain organic certification marking the first case of organic certification for hibiscus in West Africa. To read more click here>>>
In Rwanda, essential oil purchasers in Europe have expressed interest and commitment to support and purchase essential oils produced by Ikirezi Natural products. Ikirezi's commitment to organic production and strong commitment to aiding victims of the Rwandan genocide have played a large role in their appeal to foreign consumers. To read more click here>>>
ASNAPP-Ghana, Rutgers, and the private sector partner, BRI, Inc. have continued the product development and quality control for kombo butter and kombo extracts. Our work has facilitated a long term agreement between BRI and producer communities to provide income for growers and quality material for the private sector. To read more click here>>>
PFID/NP recognizes that the development of sanitary and phyto-sanitary systems is a key entry point for international market access. Throughout 2007 PFID/NP with our implementing partner ASNAPP have furthered a wide range of programs and research targeting the increase of overall quality and consistency of African Natural Products.
