The Partnership for Food Industry Development/Natural Products and our implementing partner, ASNAPP-Zambia have been persuing a wide range of programs designed to create sustainable economic growth for rural Zambians through the natural products sector. The following programs were carried out over the past fiscal year:

Indigenous Teas

Over this past fiscal year PFID/NP and ASNAPP-Zambia have carried out projects covering a range of plant products. To strengthen the market and production potential of regional indigenous teas through applied research, variety selection, trade and market development, farmer and rural business association development for herbal teas including: Moringa, Jatropa, Lemongrass, and Fadogia. Spices

PFID/NP and ASNAPP Zambia carried out projects with Zambian spices including: Ginger, Paprika, Moringa, and Bird's Eye Chillis. Our projects are focused on improving yields and developing economically and environmental sustainable production systems, identification of the germplasm needs of the Zambian spice sectors, and improving the quality and consistency of Zambia spices to create added value and economic opportunity. Essential and Pressed Oils

Target crops for our work with essential and pressed oils included Moringa, Jatropa, and Lemongrass. Project deliverables included the establishment of seed and material propagation nurseries, famer and staff trainings in nursery management and germplasm propagation, seed bank establishement, and ongoing propagation of geranium bourbon.
